Direct To Garment

Direct to garment (DTG) printing works like an inkjet printer for clothing, laying full-colour ink straight into the fabric. With no screens or transfers involved, it prints photographic detail on even a single shirt.

Ideal for detailed, full-colour designs on cotton-rich garments, in small quantities.

Corporate wearFull colour
Colours
Unlimited full colour, with a white underbase printed automatically on dark garments.
Durability
The ink bonds into the fibres for a soft-touch print that washes well with normal garment care.
Cost
No setup costs; priced per print, so one-offs and small runs shine.
Artwork
High-resolution artwork; results are best on high-cotton fabrics.

How does direct to garment printing work?

  1. 1

The garment is pre-treated so the ink bonds properly, which matters most on dark fabrics.

  2. 2

The pre-treatment is dried and the garment is loaded flat onto the print bed.

  3. 3

The printer lays down your design in full colour, adding a white underbase first on dark garments.

  4. 4

The print is heat cured, fixing the ink into the fabric.

Direct To Garment questions, answered

What is the minimum order for DTG?

Effectively one. Because there is no screen or plate setup, DTG is the natural choice for samples, small teams and one-off prints.

Does DTG work on any fabric?

It performs best on cotton and cotton-rich blends. For polyester sportswear, sublimation or heat press transfers are the better route.

How does a DTG print feel?

Soft. The ink soaks into the fibres rather than forming a layer on top, so large prints stay flexible and breathable.
