Screen Print
Screen printing pushes ink through a fine mesh stencil of your logo, one colour at a time, straight onto the product. It is the workhorse of promotional branding in South Africa: bold, accurate spot colour that lasts, at a unit cost that falls quickly as your quantity climbs.
Ideal for flat or gently curved surfaces: shopper bags, t-shirts, umbrellas, coolers, notebooks and folders.
Screen print or digital print? Pick screen printing for bold solid-colour logos in bulk. Pick digital printing for full-colour or photographic artwork and smaller runs.
How does screen printing work?
- 1
Your logo is turned into a stencil on a fine mesh screen. Each colour in the design gets its own screen.
- 2
The screen is locked over your product and ink is drawn across it with a squeegee, passing through the mesh only where your design is open.
- 3
Multi-colour designs are printed one screen at a time, with each colour aligned to the previous one.
- 4
The ink is heat cured so the print bonds to the surface and stays put.
Screen Print questions, answered
How many colours can screen printing handle?
Each colour is printed with its own screen, so screen printing is most cost-effective for logos with 1 to 3 solid colours. Full-colour artwork usually moves to digital printing instead.
How durable is a screen print?
Very durable. The heat-cured ink bonds with the surface, so prints handle daily use and repeated washing without peeling or flaking.
Is screen printing good for small quantities?
Screen printing rewards volume because every colour needs a screen setup. For a handful of items, heat press or digital printing usually works out better per unit.
